This topic specifically covers power tools, so any brushes, or pads were left out here. We wanted to see specifically which power tool for auto detailing was the most popular among the pros.
Porter Cable 7424XP
Not much of a surprise that almost everyone agrees that a polisher is the best power tool a detailer can have, with the most popular model being the Porter Cable and the Flex 3401 not far behind. The Cyclo and Meguiars also made a strong showing. What was fascinating, was that a quarter of auto detailers listed the vacuum as the choice power tool. One pro brought the point that you can hand polish a car but you can’t pick dirt out of a carpet by hand.
When you start a business you often are limited in what you can acquire right away. If these pros were to start all over again here is the first detailing tool they would make sure to have.
Once again the polisher comes out on top for the second question. It is by far the most versatile tool for both interior and exterior auto detailing, so seeing a majority agree it’s the best starting tool for an aspiring auto detailer is no surprise.
Since exterior and interior are so different when it comes to auto detailing, we grouped favorite interior detailing tools in its own question.
Fav Interior Detailing
The toothbrush is apparently not just for keeping an auto detailers teeth clean. It is also their favorite tool for interior detailing. It’s got the right combination of size and bristle strength to be effective in hard to reach and clean spaces inside an automobile.
Getting even more specific, we decided to look deeper into wheel brushes and which were the most recommended.

The Daytona Speed Master and the EZ Detail brushes dominated the discussion when it came to wheel brushes. Wheel Woolies owners were also very passionate about their choice. However, the price point for those brushes is a bit too high for some which knocked their popularity down a peg.
This one is for all the marbles. Which tool could auto detailers not live without.
